This is a home for short, contemporary fiction. The stories of women's lives. Work, parenting, relationships, traffic jams. You will find any and everything fictionalized here.
Finding a few hours to read a book seems like a luxury these days. So much of what we do is on the go. Well, now you can get short fiction in your inbox once a week. Anywhere from 750-3000 words. It's not a long term relationship- it's a fiction hook-up. Read it on the commuter train, in the break room at work, or in the waiting area at the orthodontist while your Diva in Training gets an adjustment. Once you're done, you move on to the next. No calories, no morning-after guilt, no drama.
Check out A Bit of Fiction for a sample of my goods. If you like what you read, you can become a subscriber (at the Membership) page and receive a FictionByte every Friday.
Read the blog - lots of writer's angst, story ideas, and what I'm reading as well.
And feel free to comment.
Seriously.
I woke this morning to the sounds of birds tweeting outside my window. Real birds. I can’t remember the last time I actually heard real birds tweeting outside my window.
I have no illusions about life in Charleston. I hate the heat and humidity, the backwards politics, the overt and subtle racism. And yet I am steering my car straight into the belly of the beast.
Friends often swear that they will always be there for one another… In Jenna’s case, she was about to put her friendships to the ultimate test. She was sick, and she needed them to help her commit a sin.
I survived a month of columns. I put myself out there and swam. Ok, it was more like a doggie paddle, but I didn’t sink, and that is the important thing.
A Bit of Fiction is where you can get a taste of my writing style. The posts are less than 1,000 words, but they pack a punch. They are just for fun- a fiction quickie. Be aware: A Bit of Fiction is posted randomly. Enjoy.
Stuff I write about when I’m supposed to be writing fiction. In other words, my favorite form of procrastination.
My views on working from home, solopreneurship, consulting, and writing. If I get paid to do it, you can read about it here.
Happy July. Whatever.
I’m going through some things.
Took The Girl to Virginia last weekend. She won’t be coming home in August as usual. She will be starting high school in VA in the fall. Much better schools and living year round with her dad for the next four years. Shared parenting in action. I am now the “holiday/summer” parent. I never thought I’d say these words, but - It sucks! I miss her terribly.
Work is work.
Writing is kicking my ass with a capital Kick Ass. Probably because I’ve been so …
In my quest to become a better writer, I joined a writer’s group. I had no idea what to expect, so imagine my surprise when I was hit with the force of the different personalities.
For some reason, I imagined that most writers were shy and introverted. Not the case with this group.
The Screenwriter- seems only interested in contests and placing once again at the Sundance Film Festival.
The Blowhard- talked a lot about obscure writing terms and how he has been writing for 35 years and “only writes …
I love reading books that move quickly. The twists and turns as the heroine moves along her path keep me involved in the story and anticipating what comes next.
Reading a well-written page turner is one thing. Writing a well-written page turner is a whole ‘nother thing altogether.
I have been struggling with the plot of a new WIP for a couple of weeks now. So, instead of writing, I started reading lots of stuff about novel plotting. I just ended up reading the same information over and over with no …
