Creative Spaces

This weekend, the home office was actually completed.  Seriously.  All items in said room were sorted into three piles:  keep, Goodwill, trash.  Lots of stuff went to trash.  Lots of stuff went to Goodwill.  The rest managed to find a happy home in the office.

But, here is the good part.  I was all set to use a small, unattractive little computer desk that is currently used to house books, magazines, receipts (yeah- my sophisticated filing system), and clothes. I had no plans to buy something new.  I did realize without a doubt that I would need a comfy chair to plop in for hours of uninterrupted work.  So, I went online to Target to look for- A CHAIR.

What I found in addition to a great executive chair, was a great L-shaped desk (aka-Workstation)- for less than 100.00!  So you know I ran to my nearest Target to give them my money in exchange for a chair and A DESK.

And The Man put everything together.

And it looks great!  So great that I jumped out of bed at 6:15 and couldn’t wait to get to it.

Which had me wondering why I was so eager to sit down and start work on a cold November morning (I am not a morning person by anyone’s standards.)  I realized that it’s because I designed a space that reflects my personality, and functions as intended.  If I had pulled the old computer desk from my room, I would probably continue to work from the sofa and comfy chair because I would still see the desk as a glorified catch all, and not a workspace.  With this new desk, it has only been used as a desk, so I expect myself to work when I’m here.

I now have a space that is dedicated to creation.

Yay me!

Well the new office space looks good. I think I change the look of my office space every year because my working mood and personality evolve each year. It’s still a work in progress for this year. I want to add a sitting area in here…a chair/ottoman and small table, so that when I need to take a break from editing and writing, I only have to take a couple of steps. I have to find the right chair though….
