My Surprising Truth

563956_mt__rushmoreYesterday was President’s Day- a holiday I used to look forward to.  As a matter of fact, when I had a full-time agency gig, I looked forward to all holidays.  Much needed time off from The System and its craziness.

Except, now holidays just aren’t the same (unless it’s Thanksgiving or Christmas).

Working from home means that my schedule is my own.  I have predictability with the meetings and reports and trainings that I am involved in.  These days, 30 percent of my time is scheduled by outside forces.  In the past, it was more like 90 percent.

What a difference a year makes.

A year ago, I would have been kicking back enjoying the down time while trying not to worry about what was going to be waiting for me at the office the next day.  Yesterday, I was simply annoyed that I had long lines in Target in the middle of the day when everyone else should have been at work. I wanted to get out of there and get back to writing.  It took me a moment to realize that it wasn’t still the weekend- it was a holiday.

Imagine my surprise when I realized that holidays are now work days for me.

And I don’t seem to mind it one bit.
