Overview from booksamillion:
In this first book of a new series, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night, a school where she will train to become an adult vampyre. Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been marked by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling with special powers.
My soon-to-be 14 year old has been insisting that I read this teen vampire series for months. She kept saying that she knew I was going to love it. And she was pretty close.
A teen has to transfer from her regular high school the high school for vamps because genetically, she’s a vamp.
Teen angst, oral sex, and drinking are key elements of the novel. The Girl warned me before I started reading it that some of the material might “disturb” me as a parent. ROTFLMAO She was serious. She has no clue that by the time I was her age, I was reading much worse.
Once you get past the teeny bopper drama (which was much more realistic than the Twilight series, in my opinion) the fantasy element was pretty interesting. I’ll finish out the series. It was a quick read.
As for the info that may disturb me, I just used it as another opportunity to talk about drinking, sex, and relationships.
One thing I’ll never do is censor what she reads.
