And A Child Shall Lead Me…

1167038_saladkicking and screaming into a healthier lifestyle.

The Girl announced last week that she was no longer going eat beef or pork.  This is not the first time.  Somewhere around 2007 she decided that she was going to become a vegetarian.  It lasted about 8 months (way longer than I would have been able to hold out for).  She fell off the wagon quite suddenly.  I came home from work one Friday evening and asked what she wanted for dinner and she said a burger from Burger King.

When I returned home with her burger combo, she dove into that sandwich like a woman who had been in the desert for a week with no food or water.  I don’t even think she stopped and looked up.

And life was fine.

Until this weekend when she announced that she would no longer eat beef or pork, but would continue to eat chicken and seafood.

By now, I know the drill.  I figured maybe I’ll eat a little leaner myself.  Not like I don’t need to.

So, off to Publix I went to get some “healthier selections” for the week.  UGH!  Thank God it’s spring- soon to be summer.  We can eat a different salad every night.

But tonight, I made salmon.  It’s not my favorite thing, but she loves it. And thanks to the Publix people, all I had to do was put it in the oven.  It already had some fancy spinach topping.  It actually tasted pretty good.

Tomorrow will be a fancy salad night, and Wednesday will be tilapia.

There better be some payoff for all of this.

Gurl I wish Lauren would get on this bandwagon…oh wait she did and we all gained weight from eating so many pasta (CARB) dishes…lol.

I need her to give a class to my kids and husband. They always want things that are not good for me.

Y’all just don’t know. She did not get these habits from me. Well, maybe she did. I have always encouraged her to TRY everything, and if she liked it, I would buy it just for her. Easy to do when you only have one child. She has loved salads since she could use a fork. Sigh. It’s a good thing, but I’ve got 42 years of bad habits. She only has 14 years of mediocre habits. LOL. We had the tilapia last night, and I have to say I liked it much better than the salmon. At least now I know that I prefer white fish. LOL Never too old to learn.
