Writer Girl
She fancied herself a writer, but she found that she had not engaged in “writer-like” behavior in weeks. You know, actually writing. And it wasn’t because she didn’t have the tools or the space. She had all the trappings: the sexy and sleek computer, the roomy L-shaped glass desk that she had coveted for months before finally purchasing, the leather executive chair that embraced her like an old love when she sat down, Moleskine notebooks, great gel pens, and much, much more. But this stuff did not do the writing for her. She knew the rule: put her butt in the fancy chair and not move until she had pounded out some words on her beloved Macbook. Instead, she had every excuse in the book for not writing. What she needed to do was find a reason to write. Money could no longer be the motivation. Besides, she wasn’t making any. She decided that her words, her sentences, her paragraphs, her pages would be for her enjoyment. And because she simply couldn’t not write anymore.

I do I understand what you mean. I have so many stories and not enough time in my day or night to write them all. But for 5 weeks I will have the extra time because my children will be gone and I will have no excuse. When they come back it’s only 3 weeks before school starts and I will once again have the extra time during the day while they are at school. This is the year of my change in my writing habit.
Totally understand! I think I get more writing done at my kitchen table than in my office. Just keep coming back to it. Butt in chair is the only way to make it happen (speaking as someone who’s a champion procrastinator!).
@JC- girl, my daughter is gone every summer, and every summer I say the same thing- I’m going to get a ton of writing done, and I don’t. I hope that this summer will be the turning point for me as well.
@Carleen- butt in chair, butt in chair, butt in chair. I have been saying that over and over today. It worked for a bit. LOL. I so admire folks who set schedules and keep them. I set a schedule and then do 20 other things, and then it’s crunch time. UGH!
What you need is an accountabiity partner. You up for the challenge??????
@Pam- I’m game if you are.
