My New Obsession

3 November 2009 450 views 3 Comments

The NookE-readers are my latest obsession.  Words on the go. In a compact device.  I don’t have to pick one or two books that will easily fit into my bags- I can take tens of them where ever I go.

9.99 books over the air.

No more grumblings from The Man about where we are going to put all the books that I can’t seem to stop buying.

Never again would I  be caught without something to read (unless I forget my e-reader).

My idea of heaven.

Except for one problem.

Picking an e-reader.

For the longest, I figured it would be the Kindle 2, but I waited around to see what the competition would bring.

Sony did some major reworking on their e-reader, but  the only thing really getting my attention (besides the colors) was the price.

I wanted the cool bells and whistles of the Kindle. My mind was made up.

It would be my Christmas gift to myself.

Until Barnes and Noble threw a curve ball with the Nook.

Um- hello. I can share my books with friends and family, and they can do the same.

Color book covers.

9.99 books over the air.

Decisions, decisions.

If Barnes and Noble ends up offering the device IN THEIR STORES, then of course that will be the thing to push me over- seeing as I’m into instant gratification and all.

I feel you, Djuanna! I am eyeing the Nook, as well as the Reader Touch Edition of the Sony Reader. I have the first two versions, but I really like the colors, the touch screen, and that you can take notes and highlight portions of the text. I mostly read manuscripts & submissions with my reader, but I have to take notes by hand, which sometimes get lost. Oh, I also love the expansion slots. For me, the wireless part isn’t a biggie, because I’m not sure I’d be purchasing too many ebooks.

Let me know what you decide!

Hey Tee! I’m really leaning towards the Nook. I started downloading e-books a few months ago, and I that is when the desire for an e-reader became a big deal for me. While I love my Blackberry, I don’t want to try and read books on it- flash fiction and short stories-yes. But a full-length novel- no way. Also, as I’m starting to play around with the e-book for my own fiction, I figured it be best to have one. I forgot about the Touch by Sony. I may need to give that a second look. I will definitely let you know what I actually pick up.

    Thanks for stopping by.

I know sooner or later I need to make the switch for practical purposes (too many damn books crowing me out of my house) but for now I still love the smell and feel of a real book.
