It’s Wednesday. I’m sick. And I actually went to a website because of the commercial (Alec Baldwin as the hulu alien- BRILLIANT!).
Here is one of my favorite scenes from The Devil Wears Prada (an instance where I enjoyed the movie more than the book).
Enjoy!

My Life and Hard Times by James Thurber

Synopsis (www.barnesandnoble.com)

Widely hailed as one of the finest humorist of the twentieth century, James Thurber looks back at his own life growing up in Columbus, Ohio, with the same humor and sharp wit that defined his famous sketches and writings. In My Life and Hard times, first published in 1933, he recounts the delightful chaos and frustrations of family, boyhood, youth odd dogs, recalcitrant machinery, and the foibles of human nature.
I was introduced to Thurber in high school, and for years, I’ve been meaning to go back and re-read some of his …

Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster

The full title is: Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass, Or, Why You Should Never Carry a Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office
You can see why I decided to use the short version for my post title.

Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho

Excerpted from Paulo Coelho’s website:
“Once upon a time, there was a prostitute called Maria…” Like a fairy-tale for adults, this is the beginning of the novel that shook the world.
“Eleven Minutes does not intend to be a manual or a treatise on men and women faced by the still unknown world of sexual relationships. It is an analysis of my own journey, without wanting, at any time, to judge what I experienced.

I wrote this book in order to discover whether I had had the courage to learn everything life had …

The Other Boleyn Girl

  by Philippa Gregory.
Sexy, historical read that chronicles the rise and fall of Anne Boleyn.  We all know her story, but Gregory revists the tale from Mary Boleyn’s point of view.
It’s an entertaining read and  I was drawn in by the machinations of the Boleyn family.  The phrase “by any means necessary” probably originated with them.  It’s all about getting next to the king and producing a male heir.
Gregory’s spin on things will keep you engaged.  It’s definitely something you can sink your teeth in on a drab winter day.

One Fifth Avenue

by Candace Bushnell.
From Publishers Weekly
Sex in the City goes middle-aged, mordant and slapstick in Bushnell’s chronicle of writers, actors and Wall Street whizzes clashing at One Fifth Avenue, a Greenwich Village art deco jewel crammed with regal rich, tarty upstarts and misguided lovers.

It was ok.
