OK readers- I wrote this piece in January, and at the time my girlfriend Yas told me that I should take it further. I didn’t. I really believed that I was done with the story the minute I posted it. Now, I’m not so sure.
So, I’m asking you guys to read it and then let me know what you think- is it done, or should I keep going?
(To the paid subscribers- sorry for the repeat. I’ve got some new fiction coming for you tomorrow.)

No ranting today. Just some simple observations.
I wanted to post the next installment of Claire’s People today, but didn’t get to the edits because I completed my taxes.
I wanted to write several posts for The Spring Chronicles today, but I couldn’t because I had consulting work that needed doing.
I wanted to spend an hour working on my non-fiction manuscript today. Research for a meeting that I have tomorrow took precedence.
I didn’t do what I wanted to do today because I was doing what I had to do.
I had to …

At my old gig, we had an accounting program that allowed the user to “drill down” and get specific information about a line item in the budget. It actually had a little drill icon for affect. It was a basic, but very good way to get from the general to the specific.
A seemingly random thought for a Tuesday morning. Except it’s not.
I woke up this morning thinking about how a year ago this month I gave notice and was well on my way to self-employment. It was my first step …

I did the round up of blog highlights today for our local blogging community. As I was perusing a very long list of blogs, I found that there were lots without current posts.
I’m not talking a few days or even weeks here and there. I’m talking months and months. For some, almost a year.
Which got me thinking about what gets in the way of my own posting (and we all know it’s all about me).
Here’s my short list:
I’m the free cab that transports my child to and …

I have spent the month of March getting focused, clearing out old projects, and coming up with a plan. All that is great, but at some point, I have to actually do some work.
Which I did this week.
I got my non-fiction book going- 10 actual pages written. I’ve got a couple of books of fiction chomping at the bit, and of course, my short fiction here at DFB.
Yay for me, and all that jazz.
The question is how do I keep it going? As I was pondering …

If you’re from the south, you know what that term means.
Fixin’ to eat.
Fixin’ to leave.
Fixin’ to work on the car.
Well, all week, I’ve been fixin’ to write.
I don’t know what happened. It’s like I’ve been in a vortex for the last week. I’m going to get beamed up out of here so that I can get back to writing.
And as soon as my web diva is back from vacation, she’ll teach me how to download my freakin’ podcast (no- I still have not figured it out-I didn’t realize …

My series, Claire’s People, starts tomorrow. Claire, a popular writer, finds herself returning to Charleston after 20 years of living it up in Chicago. She’s successful and happy, and yet longing for home.
A busy body mother, an eccentric neighbor, a long distance boyfriend, and the big brother who never grew up are just a few of Claire’s people.
I hope you enjoy.
(Claire’s People is only available to paid subscribers.)
In other business, the Diva of The Spring Chronicles is continuing to do her thing. Her next journal entry …

Unplugging (aka- down time, de-stressing, me time, whatever) is pretty important to me these days. I’ve learned over the past few months that going, going, going simply means that I’m tired, irritable, and crotchety (yes- I said crotchety).
This weekend I ended up unplugging by accident. I mean, I didn’t plan on doing it, it just happened. And I liked it, so I kept it up. Except, now I’ve got to get back to work, and I’m a little slow going.
Which is one of the reasons that I don’t unplug. Once …

I have been dealing with the dreaded “writer’s block” since we rang in the new year. But you post almost every day here at DFB (the little voice in my head screams). I know, I know. But I’m talking about a block when it comes to writing fiction- which I haven’t posted much of.
‘Cause I was stuck.
And then last week I had a “moment” (actually, I had several during the course of the week- on top of being sick) because it feels like things aren’t going the way I …
