Keeping It Going

I did the round up of blog highlights today for our local blogging community.   As I was perusing a very long list of blogs, I found that there were lots without current posts.
I’m not talking a few days or even weeks here and there.  I’m talking months and months.  For some, almost a year.
Which got me thinking about what gets in the way of my own posting (and we all know it’s all about me).
Here’s my short list:

I’m the free cab that transports my child to and …

Committed

I have spent the month of March getting focused, clearing out old projects, and coming up with a plan.  All that is great, but at some point, I have to actually do some work.
Which I did this week.
I got my non-fiction book going- 10 actual pages written. I’ve got a couple of books of fiction chomping at the bit, and of course, my short fiction here at DFB.
Yay for me, and all that jazz.
The question is how do I keep it going?  As I was pondering …

If you’re from the south, you know what that term means.
Fixin’ to eat.
Fixin’ to leave.
Fixin’ to work on the car.
Well, all week, I’ve been fixin’ to write.
I don’t know what happened.  It’s like I’ve been in a vortex for the last week.  I’m going to get beamed up out of here so that I can get back to writing.
And as soon as my web diva is back from vacation, she’ll teach me how to download my freakin’ podcast (no- I still have not figured it out-I didn’t realize …

Coming Soon

My series, Claire’s People, starts tomorrow.  Claire, a popular writer, finds herself returning to Charleston after 20 years of living it up in Chicago. She’s successful and happy, and yet longing for home.
A busy body mother, an eccentric neighbor, a long distance boyfriend, and the big brother who never grew up are just a few of Claire’s people.
I hope you enjoy.
(Claire’s People is only available to paid subscribers.)
In other business, the Diva of The Spring Chronicles is continuing to do her thing. Her next journal entry …

Picking Up Speed

Unplugging (aka- down time, de-stressing, me time, whatever) is pretty important to me these days.  I’ve learned over the past few months that going, going, going simply means that I’m tired, irritable, and crotchety (yes- I said crotchety).
This weekend I ended up unplugging by accident.  I mean, I didn’t plan on doing it, it just happened.  And I liked it, so I kept it up.  Except, now I’ve got to get back to work, and I’m a little slow going.
Which is one of the reasons that I don’t unplug.  Once …

Unplugging

I have been dealing with the dreaded “writer’s block” since we rang in the new year.  But you post almost every day here at DFB (the little voice in my head screams).  I know, I know.  But I’m talking about a block when it comes to writing fiction- which I haven’t posted much of.
‘Cause I was stuck.
And then last week I had a “moment” (actually, I had several during the course of the week- on top of being sick) because it feels like things aren’t  going the way I …

My Surprising Truth

Yesterday was President’s Day- a holiday I used to look forward to.  As a matter of fact, when I had a full-time agency gig, I looked forward to all holidays.  Much needed time off from The System and its craziness.
Except, now holidays just aren’t the same (unless it’s Thanksgiving or Christmas).
Working from home means that my schedule is my own.  I have predictability with the meetings and reports and trainings that I am involved in.  These days, 30 percent of my time is scheduled by outside forces.  In …

Dialing Under the Influence

Last week, The Cooties ran amok in my home.  The Girl got it, The Man got it, and then I got it.  Monday was fine.  Business as usual, but by Tuesday, it was all over but the shouting (more like whining- like a toddler who is tired, but doesn’t want to take a nap, but can’t resist curling up in a blankie and whimpering about how not tired she is until she falls asleep- but I digress).  In my antihistamine/decongestant/cough suppressant haze, I thought it would be a good idea …

Monday Morning Blues (Sort Of)

I love working from home.  But some days (particularly Mondays) I miss having a place to “go to” to start the week off.  There is something very comforting in having a “routine”, even if it’s only so that you can rebel against it. (The Ex used to call me a Rebel Just Because- so that ought to tell you something).
Well, this morning started off just like all the other Monday mornings have for the past ten months.  Except today I didn’t have the juice.  I was feeling like I …
