Most people would find it boring, but I enjoy my time alone in the car. I’ve never been a morning person, and I have to be up and rolling for a couple of hours before I start to get into the swing of things. By the time I get to work, I’m ready for whatever the day brings. It’s kind of refreshing. In the past, I used to feel blindsided by the craziness as soon as I walked into the building. Now, if something pops off at the start of the day, I’m up for the challenge.

The long ride home can be just as beneficial. I get to shake off the shit from the day and not bring it home to my family. By the time I get home, the tension has been released and I’m moving into the Chill Zone.

But I don’t do these drives in silence.

And I’m not listening to a lot of talk radio.

No. I have simply become the Queen of Audiobooks.

I know right?! And I’m not even a senior citizen.

I’ve always been somewhat snobby about audiobooks. I’m a reader. And that means reading words on a page (or in my case in the last six months, on my Nook screen). I always thought listening to books was a cop out.

Except, now, I do it every day. For like three hours a day.

My dilemma is this: can I count listening to an audiobook as having read the book?

I’m having real issues with keeping my reading journal because I don’t believe I’ve really read the book.

Help.

Anywho, while updating to the most current edition of WordPress, I realized that there were some real comments among the barrage of spam. If your comment is just posting, it’s because I decided to go through them individually instead of doing a mass delete, as I have in the past.

Your best laid plans get scrapped for the major and minor emergencies that seem to happen one right after the other (both real and imagined).

At some point, you stop and realize that you can’t control the chaos, and since you know you’ll never be prepared for the next upheaval, you decide to revisit your master plan. Or create a new one. Whatever works for you.

And after a year of sorrow, anger, and uncertainty, it’s time for me to get back to what I love. I started this website because I love writing and reading. I’ve been reading, but writing- not so much.

Until now…

My passion never left. It just hung out in the background waiting for me to get my head out of my ass and notice it.

I’ve even got some new ideas brewing. And it’s time for me to get ‘em going. In the meantime, while I’m working out the details and doing some real writing, I’ll be posting short blurbs about what I’ve read over the last few months.

Gotta warm up my writing muscles before I forge full steam ahead.

For those of you who hung in there with me- thanks for your support and continued encouragement. It’s what helped me break through.

I have many stories to tell, but life is screwing with me right now.

So, I’ll edit and post Part 2 to A Complicated Matter later this week.

And maybe one day you’ll read about the unexpected journey that has been my life these last few months.

Sade is releasing a new cd on Feb. 8th.

It will be endlessly looped for days on end- loudly. I wonder how much notice I need to give the neighbors?

Maybe Sade and I can road trip together. Have a mini vacation. Just me and Sade. In the car for hours on the open road. Like Thelma and Louse, but without the crazy shit, and  with non-stop singing.

Gotta go. I have much to do before Sade’s arrival.

I’m pretty sure that you don’t get many letters from grown-ups, but I thought I would just put it out there, in case you were feeling a tad bit generous towards the over 40 crowd this year.

Really, I hope you don’t want me to get into the whole naughty/nice thing, ’cause, we kind of know that’s all relative.

I’m not asking for much, just one of the following:

The Nook, or course. B&N says it’s not available until January ’cause they have pre-sold their loot. But you know, you being Santa and all, I thought you could make some magic happen.

or

Yeah- still coveting the Blackberry Storm. And now they have the Storm 2. What’s up TMobile? Maybe Santa has the juice, since you don’t seem to. I’m just saying.

or

A week on the Oasis of the Seas. I’m always in need of some relaxing moments.

or, if you are being super-duper generous because I’ve been the best ever in all of my 42 years (or you’ve decided to overlook the fact that I haven’t been you know, all that wonderful, all year, but you can forgive a few things) then by all means, suprise me with:
