No More Safety Net

You are taking a leap. The securities that come with working for someone else don’t exist for the self-employed.

Lunch Goes On Without You

Our days started with a round of emails, phone calls, or office visits to see what everyone’s schedule looked like and who wanted to be counted in for lunch.

Thieves in The Temple

My daughter steals my pens with such regularity that it’s become a game. I leave crappy ones lying around in hopes that she will take those instead. No dice.

Rainy Days and Mondays

For some, starting the week off with a rainy day is a recipe for the blahs.  Not me.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the rain.
Living in the south, we have lots of  sunny days. I usually  feel like I have to be out and about and productive.  At some point in the day.  It is just required that I leave my house.
Not so on rainy days.  I feel like I can relax into the day.  Do what I have to at a slower pace.
It’s probably because I’m the Master …

Not Another Monday Rant

No ranting today.  Just some simple observations.
I wanted to post the next installment of Claire’s People today, but didn’t get to the edits because I completed my taxes.
I wanted to write several posts for The Spring Chronicles today, but I couldn’t because I had consulting work that needed doing.
I wanted to spend an hour working on my non-fiction manuscript today.  Research for a meeting that I have tomorrow took precedence.
I didn’t do what I wanted to do today because I was doing what I had to do.
I had to …

Monday Blues

My Mondays usually start off pretty much the same.  I get The Girl up and out of the house, make a cup of tea, watch Good Morning America while writing out my week-long To Do list, and then I begin to actually whittle down the list.
No big deal, right?  Everybody does it.
Except this week The Girl is on spring break, and I have no idea what we are going to do this week.  So far, I’ve come up with the following:

movies
the driving range
grabbing our cameras and heading downtown as if …

My Surprising Truth

Yesterday was President’s Day- a holiday I used to look forward to.  As a matter of fact, when I had a full-time agency gig, I looked forward to all holidays.  Much needed time off from The System and its craziness.
Except, now holidays just aren’t the same (unless it’s Thanksgiving or Christmas).
Working from home means that my schedule is my own.  I have predictability with the meetings and reports and trainings that I am involved in.  These days, 30 percent of my time is scheduled by outside forces.  In …

Dialing Under the Influence

Last week, The Cooties ran amok in my home.  The Girl got it, The Man got it, and then I got it.  Monday was fine.  Business as usual, but by Tuesday, it was all over but the shouting (more like whining- like a toddler who is tired, but doesn’t want to take a nap, but can’t resist curling up in a blankie and whimpering about how not tired she is until she falls asleep- but I digress).  In my antihistamine/decongestant/cough suppressant haze, I thought it would be a good idea …

Motivation (or the lack thereof)…

The guy on the left is climbing- you know the whole onward and upward thing.
Which is the way I started this week.
 It’s not ending that way.
No complaints.  It is what it is.
I’ll keep moving.
Just a little slower.
And with a little less enthusiasm.
But moving nonetheless.
